What
volunteer opportunities are available? |
|
| |
At RSVP, your help is needed in two
areas -
- admin
(where you assist full-time
staff)
- community-service
programmes
|
|
| |
| |
|
4. |
How do I volunteer? |
|
| |
Call us at
Telephone No. 62590802. Talk to any
one of our full-time staff members.
Or e-mail general@rsvp.org.sg.
They will fill you in on the details
of how you may help and in what areas
of the office where assistance is needed.
Going through our Programmes is a good
starting point. Find one that fits your
profile, or one you're comfortable with
or one that interests you. When you're
ready to offer your time, either e-mail
us at
general@rsvp.org.sg,
or call us at
Telephone No. 6259
0802 (during office hours)
Our admin volunteers are on hand to
explain RSVP's programmes and connect
you to the member in charge of the programme
of your choice.

5. |
Do my skills
make a difference to a programme? |
|
| |
Yes, and no.
Yes, because, generally, some of us
do have specialist knowledge of a particular
discipline, which is better deployed
to a specific activity.
No, because most of our programmes do
not need specific skills other than
the willingness to come forward to help
the less fortunate of our community.

6. |
How long must
I commit to a volunteer opportunity? |
|
| |
Certain programmes require a fixed commitment
of time for these reasons -
- to ensure continuity of a relationship
- to bring a commitment to full tenure
Other than this, most programmes are easy
to get into without worries of breaking
the continuity of a commitment.
The programme that needs a fixed commitment
of time is - Mentoring
Programme:
Volunteers should commit themselves to
at least one full academic year, once
a week before or after school hours depending
on the school's request. Each mentoring
session lasts 3 hours. |

7. |
As a volunteer
elsewhere, will I be allowed to do so
at RSVP? |
|
| |
Of course. There are no restrictions
to the number of volunteer opportunities
to which you've committed yourself.
As a volunteer elsewhere, your experience
of volunteerism will be of great help
to RSVP.

|
| |
|
8. |
Are volunteers
trained for their assignments? |
|
| |
Yes, wherever necessary, training
is provided free of charge to prepare
volunteers for their assignments.
|
|
| |
|
| 9. |
I may be able
to help occasionally. Do you have volunteer
opportunities for people like me? |
|
| |
Yes, RSVP's Secretariat keeps a list
of people like you. When the need arises,
the co-ordinator of a project will call
on you.
Call us at Telephone No. 6259
0802 (during office hours),
or e-mail us: general@rsvp.org.sg,
to put yourself on the list.

10. |
I am physically
immobile. How do I volunteer? |
|
| |
Help is needed whatever your station
in life.
For people like yourself, you could
start a homebound service, involve yourself
in an activity that suits your needs.
If you have a computer at home, you
could help with the layout of, or write
for our newsletter, or download information
which you think could be used for articles.
Providing telephone services is another
area you could consider.
