Volunteering in the Active Ageing Seniors Programme

How did you get into volunteering and why?
I came across an article about active ageing and how activities like cooking and drawing can help seniors keep their mind active. This inspires me to teach drawing.  When I attended the volunteerism talk held at RSVP 5 years ago, I indicated my interest to teach and this was how it all started.

Could you share where you volunteer currently and what your responsibilities are?
Currently I conduct drawing classes on Tuesdays at RSVP. Each session lasts for 2 hours. I focus on shadows, measurements, movements, scenery and portraits.

What satisfaction have you gained from the experience?

It is extremely satisfying for me when my students realise they can draw better than they expected. It is also heart-warming to see my students show their passion for art. I enjoy teaching and impacting skills to my students to help keep them active.

What would you say to other seniors about volunteering?

Start volunteering and you will receive more than what you give.
