FAQ On Volunteering
- If you are 40 years and above, you can be a member volunteer with a one-year membership subscription of $24. If you are between 40 to 49 years of age, you will be an Associate Member, while those 50 and above, are Ordinary Members with voting rights.
- You have to be a Singapore Citizen or a Permanent Resident to join.
- If you do not fulfil the criteria of membership, you can still volunteer with us as a "Friend of RSVP" with no fee payment required. However, you must be recommended by an RSVP member.
Print out a copy of our application form in English or Mandarin. Fill in and send it back to us.
If you need more information, please feel free to call us at 6259 0802 (during office hours), or send us an e-mail.
At RSVP, we need your help in these areas:
- Community service programmes
- Administration (where you assist full-time staff)
For any of the above areas, call us at 6259 0802 (during office hours) or e-mail us. You might want to look at the various community service programmes first and see which one best suits you. There are also volunteering opportunities in our social enterprise, RSVP ProGuide.
Certain programmes require a fixed commitment of time to ensure continuity of a relationship, and to bring a commitment to full tenure. Other than this, most programmes are easy to get into without worries of breaking the continuity of a commitment.
The programme that needs a fixed commitment of time is our Mentoring Programme where volunteers should commit to at least one full academic year, once a week before or after school hours depending on the school's request. Each mentoring session lasts three hours.
Of course. There are no restrictions to the number of volunteering opportunities that you should be committed to. Just as long as you are willing to volunteer and put in the time, we welcome you. As a volunteer elsewhere, your experience will be a great help to us at RSVP.
Yes, wherever necessary, training is provided free of charge to prepare volunteers for their assignments.
Yes, RSVP's Secretariat keeps a list of people like you. When the need arises, the coordinator of a project will call you. Call us at 6259 0802 (during office hours) or e-mail us to put yourself on the list. We also offer episodic volunteering opportunities for those who are unable to commit too much of their time.
Help is needed whatever your station in life. For people like yourself, you can start a homebound service, involve yourself in an activity that suits your needs. If you have a computer at home, you could help with the layout of, or write for our newsletter, or download information which you think could be used for articles. Providing telephone services is another area you could consider.
For volunteers up to 70 years of age, we provide a Death or Permanent Disablement cover of $50,000. Medical reimbursement for each accident is based on actual expenses and is subject to a maximum of $1,000. For volunteers between 70 to 75 years of age, there is a Death or Permanent Disablement cover of $10,000, and those between 76 and 85 years of age, the cover is $5,000. These coverages are for any mishaps, which happen anywhere in the world (not just Singapore). The basic proviso is that the volunteer must be either doing volunteering work, going to or coming from his or her volunteering work.
For any information on any of the above programmes, call RSVP at 6259 0802 (during office hours) or e-mail us. If you want to join RSVP, download the application form.
Yes, and no. Yes, because, generally, some of us do have specialist knowledge of a particular discipline, which is better deployed to a specific activity.
No, because most of our programmes do not need specific skills other than the willingness to come forward to help the less fortunate in our community.
